Just Moved to San Francisco With Your Dog — Now What?
Welcome to the Best City for You and Your Dog
First, congratulations on moving to the BEST City in the United States! San Francisco is an amazing place for both you and your dog – but you both might need a bit of time to adjust.
Here are some quick tips.
Walking Your Dog in the City
First, yes, you may need to walk your dog if you gave up a backyard for City life. Before you even start with “where will my dog go to the bathroom,” millions of dogs have lived in San Francisco and have peed and pooped just fine. There are plenty of places to walk your dog that have the “natural” allure of grass or a tree – just remember to carry a poop bag (it’s both the right thing to do and the law)!
Have a dog with stage fright that simply won’t go on a leash? We’ve got off-leash areas all over San Francisco – again, don’t forget that poop bag!
Finding the Right Dog Day Care
Your new place might be smaller than your old one, and you may need to provide some more exercise opportunities for your dog (you might have also gotten a new job with that new place that requires more time away). Do some early research and find a dog day care that meets both your needs.
Remember, not all San Francisco dog day cares accept all breed types – some exclude “bully breeds,” while others reject all “herding” breeds. Also, not all dog day cares are designed for dogs that don’t thrive in the company of other dogs (if you have such a dog, we don’t need to say more).
If you’re lucky enough to live in one of our cooler neighborhoods, you already know that the tradeoff for great bars, restaurants, and shops is
often terrible parking. If you ditched your car for the big move or simply hate spending half an hour looking for a spot, ask your new doggie day care about transportation.
There you go – brand new to San Francisco and already a dog pet parent expert! Have any specific questions about your dog? Give us a call -we’d be thrilled to personally welcome you to San Francisco and answer your questions.
