On Thursday, November 1, Pet Camp received the first-ever Small Business Award given by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce at its annual Excellence in Business Awards. Presented by Travis Kiyota, Director of Government Relations, of Pacific Gas & Electric Co., this ongoing award is intended to honor small, San Francisco businesses that exemplify the diversity of products and services that give San Francisco’s neighborhoods their special flair, an example of the entrepreneurial spirit that demonstrates an investment in the City’s future.

Husband-and-wife team, Mark Klaiman and Virginia Donohue accepted the award. In her statement, Virginia said, “This is truly an amazing honor and we are grateful to our camp counselors, our campers and our campers’ parents who allow us the privilege of caring for their dogs and cats."

This year’s finalists, which also included the esteemed Beronio Lumber and Orchard Garden Hotel, were chosen, not only for their unique contributions to the vibrancy of life in San Francisco, but also for their strong commitment to green initiatives which has helped to make San Francisco one of the world’s leaders in the application of alternative energy sources. As one of the largest users of solar power and a model for what small businesses can do to make a difference, Pet Camp was honored as being among the City’s green pioneers.

Other winners of the Excellence in Business awards include Virgin America, One Rincon Hill, Method cleaning products, and Charles Schwab & Co.
